Combining & reflowing documents

Source tabs in the document bar assemble a template's output from workspace documents, other templates, and blank pages. Document reflows locates moving fields when layouts shift.

Document Blueprint builds your final PDF from different sources. You organize the pages the template needs before placing any fields.

The document bar

The document bar sits in a dedicated row directly above the preview canvas. The editor toolbar sits just above the document bar. The global navigation keeps only the save and discard actions.

The bar switches between two automatic layouts based on your template. A template with no sources shows a minimal Data label row. Adding a source switches the bar to a multi-source tab strip.

You use the editor toolbar to undo or redo any document bar changes. Changes persist only when you click the save action. Discarding reverts all uncommitted edits.

Tab types

Every page in the generated PDF comes from a source tab. Each tab occupies a range of pages in the final output.

  • Data: This tab is always present and always leftmost. It collects question answers inline and holds the Run button. It cannot be removed.
  • Workspace document: These tabs reference PDF or Word files. You upload a document once and reuse it across templates.
  • Blank page: The Blank tab acts as a separator or reserved space.
  • Template reference: These tabs point at another template by identifier. They stitch outputs together. You cannot add them manually.

A brand-new template starts with only the Data tab. Every document or blank page you add becomes a new tab after the ones already there. Adding a document never replaces a blank page, so fields you placed on a blank page stay on it.

Adding document sources

The Add button sits at the left end of the document bar. The tab strip scrolls beside it.

1Click Add→2Pick a source or upload a file→3Drag tabs to reorder them

Every field belongs to the tab it was placed on and to a page of that document. Reordering tabs, or adding a tab in front, never moves a field onto another document. Removing a tab that has fields on it asks first, because those zones are deleted with it. Undo brings them back.

The Add menu lists Sources from this workspace. It shows each document name, category chip, and automation chips. The menu says there are no sources yet if the workspace is empty. A document uploads once, and every template that adds it shares the same file. Each source carries a file category, and that category is how a run finds the right file for each tab: a template with several sources needs one incoming file per source. A search box appears when you have more than eight sources. You can select the same source multiple times.

Click Upload new file to attach a PDF or Word document. You provide a name and click Upload & add to template. The preview canvas jumps to your new document. Adding a document tells the app which incoming files this template consumes.

On mobile devices, a single pill shows the active source. You tap it to open a Sources bottom drawer. This drawer contains drag handles, settings buttons, and an add row.

Tab and document settings

Click a tab to make it active, then click its chevron to open its settings. On mobile, tap the ... button in the Sources drawer.

Tabs include two row settings that apply only to this template:

  • AI instructions: Say what the AI should know about this document. The text guides extraction. You can also name a page that can spill onto an extra sheet so the app shifts subsequent pages.
  • Include pages from source: You type a range like 1-3, 5 to slice a larger file. A field placed on a page you leave out stays in the template. It is hidden on the canvas and skipped in the output, and its zone reads (not included). Include the page again and the field comes back in the same place. A counter shows the total pages. Leave the input empty to include all pages.

The chevron popover contains a Document settings section. Document settings apply to every template using that file. You can replace the file or rename the document. A rename reaches every template at once. You can change the document color, which recolors its file category everywhere.

The popover also includes an Automation section. It shows connected trigger details or a link to add an automation.

Blank tabs offer a Page count stepper and an Orientation toggle for portrait or landscape.

The toolbar page navigator sits between the undo controls and zoom settings. It walks through pages within the current active document. It displays your position like 1 / 5.

Click a different tab to switch documents. The page navigator hides when you select the Data tab or view a single-page document.

The toolbar Run button lets you test your configuration. Clicking the caret next to it opens the Run with your documents... option. You can upload replacement PDFs for a single run while keeping the saved template intact. Rows default to Using stored copy.

Document reflows

Field placement is normally exact and fixed. You turn on Document reflows when document content grows, shrinks, or shifts.

You find the Document reflows checkbox in the Template details dropdown. It sits above the output category. The toggle appears only on file-generating templates. The dropdown also shows a read-only Routed from chip per derived input category.

You edit template-level AI instructions behind the Data tab's chevron. The Run button's caret menu holds a separate override for the next run.

During a run, the AI locates each field's anchor. It reads the printed label and the line it sits on. It stamps the value where that anchor sits now. The repositioning pass only runs when the toggle is on. When it is off, fields render at their saved positions.

Fields that fill named PDF form fields are placed by name. They never use coordinates, so reflows never moves them.

You can add an Anchor hint to any write zone. Hints name what the field attaches to. They sharpen placement on busy pages.

If an anchor cannot be found, the field stays exactly where you placed it. A notice appears on the Data tab above the data grid after the run. It tells you how many fields were left at their template positions.

Removing tabs and deleting documents

You remove a tab by clicking its x button. The app asks for confirmation because fields on those pages will show blank. You can undo a tab removal from the toolbar. Blank tabs remove immediately.

Clicking Delete document inside Document settings permanently deletes the file from the workspace. Every template using it loses the file. You cannot undo a deletion from the toolbar.

If a document gets deleted, any tab pointing to it says Missing source. It renders blank pages in your output. You repair this by removing the dangling tab. You then click Add to insert a replacement and drag it into position.
